So today is the day I leave.

Saturday, 18 October 2014

After getting Wi-Fi for the first time in almost two days, we headed to the lighthouse.  The drive wasn’t long at all, but the coast was stunning and I wish we could have kept driving.  The cliffs and tiny islands were a beautiful mustard color; they were so worn away by the waves and wind it almost looked like they had teeth and claws.  The wind was so ridiculously strong it almost blew Sharon and I right over, and the waves crashing against the rocks were ferocious.  Rob brought us to the nesting place of the fairy penguins; apparently when I come back for Christmas the baby penguins should be learning how to swim!  Unfortunately I did not go to the current lighthouse; instead I stood on the old foundations of the previous lighthouse.  It was moved because the winds get so strong that the lighthouse can’t handle the weather.

Sharon and I made three different types of pizzas for dinner: a Tai pizza, cheese pizza, and a ricotta pizza.  We all had ¼ of each pizza but by the time the cheese pizza was ready we could only have a sliver each.   I would say it was a very successful pizza making night.

It is now 8:40pm… I have made it 40 min past my last bedtime.  My typing skills are starting to take a turn for the worse because I keep spelling simple words like bedtime wrong.  It is a sign that it’s past my bedtime… time to sleep.  Tata for now.

Day 1

I woke up a couple times throughout the night but had no trouble falling back to sleep.  At 7:50 I could no longer sleep and just listened to Rob and Sharon get ready to go boating.  After breakfast and cleanup, Rob and Sharon took off for the boat at around 9:30.  I went straight for the beach.  It started to get sunny and warm right away.  Of course I was barefoot, and the sand felt so nice on my feet.  I wanted to go swimming, but the water seemed a bit too cold for that.  The whole beach was covered in different colors and kinds of seaweed.  I wanted Tim there so he could take really cool photos, and him and I could flip over the mounds of seaweed to see what was underneath.  I got to the giant rock meridian at one end of the beach and clamored along it finding the most beautiful shells ever!  Unfortunately, when I go to beaches I’m only allowed to take memories and leave footprints.  It is very hard to do.

Now it’s almost 1:00 and I am waiting for Sharon and Robin to return home so we can go out and take Kel (a.k.a Kelowna, their rescue dog) for a walk along the beach.  I’m starting to feel a bit lonely now though, wishing I had a few people here right now to keep me company.  On top of that I have no Wi-Fi so there is no way for me to talk to anyone at the moment.  I might go for a cold swim to shock myself out of my current low right now… or just bundle up and watch an episode or two of Pokémon: Johto Journeys!  I haven’t quite decided yet.

I decided on the swim… it was just what I needed to feel better.  After my swim Sharon had lunch ready and Rob had the towel waiting.  Not that it had really crossed my mind but Rob told me that I had just swum in fresh arctic water.  He said that if you look straight out to the horizon, you’d be starring at the arctic.  Now that lunch is done I’m feeling a bit tired, but it’s time for a walk and I can’t really wait to go on it.

During our long walk we found cuddle fish bones which we used to have a boat race with.  Sharon won... but I came in second place with my tiny cuddle fish boat.

Now we are off to see a lighthouse... not sure what its called though.

Mount Gambier

So after arriving in Mount Gambier…. Finally!  I was whisked away by Robin and Sharon (family friends) to their beach house, which is a twenty min drive from what I will now call home.

Their beach house is amazing!  The dining room table is Rob’s grandfather’s old sailing boat.  The whole front of the house is covered in glass and looks out onto the water; which was a little choppy.

Sharon made a lovely vegetarian lasagna and a delicious salad for dinner… but don’t worry mom, I helped prepare it and clean up afterwards.  By 8:00 I was really ready for bed.  Climbing into bed I thought briefly, holy shit! I’m in Australia.

Last Flight

In Melbourne I had to go pick up my 85L bag.  Which was no big deal, except for the fact that I had carry it to the other side of the airport on foot in the sun to get to my next check-in point.  At one point I realized I had gone too far and had to turn around.  My back was killing me by this point and I could feel my cleavage dripping with sweat. By the time I got to the counter I was heaving for breath and hoping I wasn’t going to miss my flight.  The very nice man at the counter told me my bag was a little over weight, but he wouldn’t charge me extra and was confident it would make it on the flight.  I had 3 hours to kill until my last flight, so I found a café and ordered a pizza.  At the last minute I asked the lady what the drinking age was… it was 18.  I ordered myself a Heineken and sat down at a table with my greasy pizza, sweaty boobs and forehead, and my laptop.  First time I felt relaxed since my trip had begun.

Here in Australia!

So after landing in Sydney at 8:58 my time... it started raining.  It looked so beautiful up in the sky, but I was clearly deceived.

I had neglected to fill out my occupation on my little paper thing that asks you a bunch of questions that I don't find necessary.  But when I got to customs the man was nice enough to dil it out for me... he wrote down Student... of life.  Haha, I knew right away this was going to be a good day!

I'm just waiting now... for my adventure to continue.

Can't decide if I should buy food before I get on my flight... hmmmmmmm.

Kay I was just kidding about boarding.... only the first class get to board right now.  I get to wait a little longer before I leave for seven months.
It's 22:37 and I'm ready to board the plane and sleep for a very long time.  At least while I wait I can smell my hair and blog about it... it smells like royal jelly.  Just incase none of you know what that smells like, it smells like dove cucumber body wash.  Flight is boarding now... goodbye Canada!!!!! I love you so much!!!
