I didn’t feel like getting out of bed this morning but knew
that I had too. I grabbed Jess a
yogurt because she doesn’t know how to feed herself and then headed to hers and
then the bus stop.
While we waited at the sanctuary I felt strangely energized
and ready to face any task ahead of me.
I was a floater again today but it was very different and there was
always something to do.
Zoe (a volunteer) and I started in the roo enclosure;
cleaning the resting areas and water dishes, I even got to hose down an
emu!!! Then we took the waste to
the green pile and searched for new jobs to do. This is the first time I’ve gotten to do this… clean the
reptile enclosures!!!! Not any
snakes of course, they wouldn’t allow us to do that, only the blue tongue
skinks and other lizards. Their
scales feel so cool!
Bearded dragon.
Not sure what this is.
After tea we cleaned a few dishes and then Mel came in with the most devious look on her face saying she needed us… we knew a hard job was ahead of us. It was re-mulching the bird enclosures, something I had no problem with because I got to do it in the tawny frogmouth enclosure. The is one tawny that just sits on his log never moving at all, sometimes we have staring contest, he wins most of the time, unless he gets tired and closes his eyes. I stayed in this enclosure taking my time for about an hour and a half, just chilling out with my buddy smiley the tawny frogmouth.
The keepers didn’t know what to do with us so they had us sitting in the shade pulling out weeds. I didn’t argue with this job at all! I got to listen to my music, sit in the shade and do some well-needed gardening in one small spot. Zoe and I talked the whole time and at one point while I was weeding a very small frog jumped out of nowhere and I caught it and Zoe and I examined it. She is studying animal science right now but didn’t know what kind of frog it was, only that it wasn’t a toad.
Soooo tiny!
Finally it was lunch!!!!!!! Jess came to eat almost as I was done eating… she has been in birds all day and absolutely hates it. I think it’s the fact that the cages are metal and all she has been doing is re-mulching, poor Jess.
Our last job of the day was refilling the water for the eucalypt branches in the koala enclosures. This took 45 minutes and then I was in line to hold the olive python… no big deal or anything. I was pretty much the only girl that was excited to be touching a snake but I’d do it again in a second.
And it begins!
Exciting stuff!!!!
I am a snake model.
Jess and I caught the bus to Queen Street so she could get her glasses fixed and buy me a smoothie. The only thing is, she forgot her glasses at home; oh Jess, so forgetful. She did buy me frozen green tea yogurt though!
Back at home I peeled my socks off to expose a perfectly clean popped blister; my health will now change! I did my laundry in the sink and had to tightly ring out every item of clothing so I could wear some tomorrow for work, I hope they dry by then.
Now I have just been sitting in my room having sassy conversations with Gareth about how I am going to marry his friend Sean. Sean is a nerd that love Pokémon and every other show like that that you can think of… he is my soul mate but doesn’t know it yet.
I went for another run on the same root but did it faster this time, my body will learn to adapt to this fast paced life of mine. I love being able to run longer and getting all red faced and sweaty!
Had a lovely shower and then some home made nachos on the balcony with Kate, my British roommate that is very talkative.
I am about to slip into a food coma now and its only 9 at night,
can ever go to bed too early I guess.
Goodnight for now.
