I woke up in the morning knowing I was not going to do
anything but type for my blogs but I could hardly do that. I lounged around in the T.V. room until
I had to leave for orientation at the Sanctuary I will be volunteering at
tomorrow. I figured out the bus schedule
pretty quickly, which was nice but the only thing I hate about the buses here
are that one ride costs as much as $7, that’s just one way!
I was worried about missing the sanctuary stop so I asked
the driver where to get off and she told me to sit down and that she would tell
me when we were there; a little rude I thought. We made it to the sanctuary and I couldn’t get away from her
sooner!
Just when I thought I would make no friends while I was here
I bumped into another volunteer named Jessica and you will not believe how
weird this is! Michaela back on
Kangaroo Island mentioned her friend she met back in Sydney named Jessica; I
just didn’t make the connection until I mentioned Michaela briefly. When Jessica heard her name she started
freaking out saying she knew her and then I started freaking out! Out of all the people to meet while you
travel I meet a friends friend, how weird and awesome is that?! We became best friends instantly and we
talked forever, only until the orientation started did we stop of course.
We were given our two volunteer shirts and a quick tour of
everything. Jess really wanted a picture with one of the koalas and the deals
we get here are insane! She got a
$16 photo for $5, quite the deal volunteers get here!
We hopped back on the bus and headed for home, Jess only
lives four hostels down from me, which makes it super easy for us to meet up
and that is exactly what we did.
Once I had finished dinner and showered I invited Jess over so we could
watch a movie in the T.V. room for a little while. We were so tired though that we needed to go to bed early. Our wakeup time was 6 o’clock and I
meet her outside her hostel at 6:45 so we can make our 7:30 bus. We want to give ourselves lots of time
so we don’t miss our first morning!
So excited and can’t wait to start!!!!
