I took my time getting ready this morning because at 10 I
finally am going to get henna done on my hands! The lady arrived and I sat down for an hour and a half and
never took my eye off her hand once.
I was so interested in every single stroke of the henna tip and how
different everything is compared to what I do. It was amazing that everything that was being put on my hand
was a design that was just coming to her and not something she saw. When both hands were completed, top and
bottom, I thanked her very much and was super curious as to how much all this
would cost. In total it came to
360 rupees, which is about $7… something like this back at home would be
getting close to the hundreds and I got it for $7!!! How insane is that… $7, what a treat this is! After she left I did some blogging in
the TV room with Pranav before we headed out to go find me a dress for a
wedding function tomorrow night.
In the car Pranav and I picked at the dried henna on my hands and made a
bit of a mess everywhere.
So exciting!
One hand done!
It was so orange I looked like an Oompaloompa, they are super dark now.
The store we went to is one that Karuna suggested, her
friend owns the shop. The shop is
so cute and the clothes looked amazing!
I started picking out clothes right away and rushed to the dressing
room. Every piece of clothing I
tried on rubbed off the henna on my hands and scattered it to the floor, after
coming out of the dressing room a lady gave me plastic gloves because she
didn’t want the clothes to get ruined.
Pranav laughed at me every time I came out of the dressing room wearing
a beautiful dress and plastic gloves.
I fell in love with a beautiful dress that is white and fades to yellow
at the bottom. When I finished in
the dressing room the floor was covered with black specks of henna.
We drove to Pranav’s college to pick up his ID card but ended
up leaving him there and I slept the car ride home.
At home Karuna took me out again to get pants for my dress
and to run some small errands. The
white pants I got are so soft and loose I don’t think I will ever take them
off. We headed to a few little
convenient stores; Karuna got me silver and colorful bangles for my wrists and
lots of different colored bindi’s.
Finally after everything that needed to be done was done we headed home.
After Pranav got home we chilled out for a bit in the TV
room and watched a Bollywood movie with Karuna. Tonight we are having a big bonfire and roasting
marshmallows! When the fire was
ready we all bundled up and headed to the garden. A big fire was going but we had to wait a little bit before
roasting the marshmallows that Snow was very interested in. The wood kept collapsing and making
dangerous glowing mines on the lawn… I could never hurt myself around
fire. Finally we got to roast the
marshmallows, they were so sweet I could only eat one, it was the same for everyone
else. As I got up I plowed my hand
into a hot ember buried in the grass, Sunil looked at me and laughed because I
had just said that I wouldn’t hurt myself around the fire. I put ice on it but I already knew that
it was going to turn into a blister and that there was no point in trying to
heal it. The blister didn’t
actually end up being that big and the pain subsided after an hour. For dinner we had butter paneer, this
is something I taught my mum how to make.
It looked lighter in color and tasted different but I’m in India so that
is expected. I kept eating more
and more of it until I was full and then dessert came. You’re going to have to forgive me because
I have no idea how to spell gallab gammin or even know the name of the little
white balls surrounded by milk but I do know that they both tasted
amazing! I could have had them for
dinner and nothing else. After dinner
we went back inside to finish our movie but 15 minutes into it and I was fast
asleep drooling all over my arm. I
headed to bed and we all decided to finish the movie tomorrow.
Family fire in Pune.
Another tiring day in Pune.
