The morning was very slow; I spent it planning what I was
going to do with my day. I decided
on a free tour of the Haigh’s chocolate factory, the botanical gardens, a
museum, and walking along the shopping street called Rundle.
I made a 12 o’clock viewing at the chocolate factory and I
had to walk the whole way there.
The sun wasn’t out and there was a cool breeze but my back was getting
so hot; didn’t help that I was walking super fast so I didn’t miss the tour. I got lost once using a paper map but
remembered that I had an iPhone and used that instead. I arrived exactly 5 min after 12 and
the lady was happy to fill me in on what I’d missed so far.
Haigh’s is a privately owned chocolate factory that only
ships around Australia… only Australia.
They use three different types of cacao beans; Papua New Guinea beans,
South American, and beans somewhere in Africa. They make the chocolate taste so freaking good! I got to see chocolate brandy truffles
get coated with dark chocolate and decorated with cute green leaves. I wasn’t allowed to take any pictures
but I got lots of free samples that I ate immediately and I was given two beans
that smell just like dark chocolate, hopefully they still smell that way when I
get home.
I walked 50 min into the city to get to the botanical
garden. I made a quick stop at
Target to get a new charging cord for my camera; I couldn’t wait to see if my
camera would charge. The garden
wasn’t far away and I was so happy to see it all, I mean all of it. I walked through the rose garden, the
rainforest, water garden, cactus part, giant pines and just any path I could
find. It was so beautiful! I was kind of sad to leave.
I think this is called a fir pine.
Cute little ducklings.
All the bamboo is covered with names and writing.
Not sure what the flower is called but it looked like satin.
Different apples and pears at the museum.
I was in mushroom heaven when I saw this case!
So many cases!
Different types of oak seeds.
Selfie with a giant fern.
A flower from the amazon.
How beautiful are these roses?!
Pretty little rose
Water lily!
The view of the wetlands.
Creepy scarecrows
Weirdest pigeons, they have a spike feather out of their head.
A twisted old tree.
A massive flower the size of my face.
The cactus area.
Just a very cool tree.
A baby bird a had to rescue from the sidewalk.
On my return home I walked down Rundle Street and Hindley
Street; they are two VERY different streets. Rundle has all the clothing and food stores that made me
want to spend all my money.
Hindley Street is where you go if you want to find a strip club or a
dirty burlesque show, not even kidding.
Wasn’t long before I returned home with a box of wine and a very hungry
stomach. Made another one of my
sandwiches and attempted to open my box of wine with a knife, I punctured
through the packaging and had to tip the box to make it stop. I now know how to open a box of wine
properly. It was about 6:30 when I
finished eating and a nap was much needed.
When I got up I had a quick snack and shower and then was
ushered away to a club called HQ.
The trick is to come before 10 because then you only have to pay $10,
then you can leave and go to a different club. When we left we headed to a German bass club… this music is
not for everyone and I am one of those people. It was super difficult to dance to and everyone started to
look like a fool as they danced.
Some how I managed to stay there till 1 o’clock and then we all went
back to HQ. I stayed till 3:30
dancing with all my buddies from the hostel. Kai the German and Val the French man were dancing so close
to each other at one point we all thought they would kiss. I left the club with Paul from New York
and another boy from Germany.
We were so happy when we got home because the kitchen was
unlocked and the free breakfast had been set out. We decided to each as much as possible because we knew we
wouldn’t wakeup in time to have it in the morning. The German and I wanted to watch Lord of the Rings but
someone was already in the TV room so we all just went to bed.
It was a really fun night and I am so glad it is so easy to
make friends here… my camera charger does work so don’t worry about photos.
