Last Day in Adelaide

After finishing my laundry and doing a bit of research for the next leg of my trip I headed off to go see some museums.

I started off in the immigrations museum; I read practically every piece of writing stuck to the walls.  I took a particular interest in island where most German Australian men were kept because of suspicion of helping the enemy.  Can’t remember the exact date of what everything said but I remember 1915 is when things started to get better for the men being held in this camp.

Read very single poster.

Men in uniform.

I really liked the photo and the description below that went with it.

Men in drag are so funny.

Map of Australia and all the devisions.

Daggers and Swords!

Pretty lace dress

Funny looking dress

Guns!

I learned a little about the first settlers that came to Australia and how cruel they were to the aboriginals.  Although the British couldn’t have survived without to help and knowledge of the aboriginal peoples, they still saw them as an inferior race.

After an hour or so of reading, I travelled up the street to the museum of arts.  It wasn’t all arts; there were animals that had been stuffed.  I have now seen a bunch of the African wildlife and I didn’t even need to leave Australia!

All the animals!

The tools the natives used were super cool; I especially loved all the different weapons that were on display.

It's a man purse.

The complete collection of pipes.

I saw much more taxidermy work as I made my way to different floors of the museum.  It was pretty interesting but it defiantly creped me out.  There were even dead animals in preserves!

Ew.

Don't worry, this one is alive!

RAWR!

Made of different animal bones.

This thing is huge! The picture doesn't do it justice.

The fur seal skull.

They make it look so mean and awful... poor sharky.

Stuffed seagulls feasting on a plastic dolphin caracas.

The things you can find in your backyard.

Duck with a weird neck thing.

He's the boss kangaroo.

My favorite part by far was being able to see different fossils and gems.  There weren’t that many fossils on display but my goodness I am jealous of the rock collection.  The different types of opals that were on display made me want to open the cases and take them with on my entire trip; wouldn’t matter how heavy they were.

The rock collections are absolutely amazing!

These ones are florescent.

The gem of my future wedding ring.

QUARTZ!

All color coordinated.

This is a very big and very scary fish.

Didn't realize how big a gray whale is.

By the time I finished walking around museums it was near 5 o’clock; everything in Australia closes at 5… everything!  So I casually made my way back home to find out what would be the events of tonight.

When I got home I had to of course finish my laundry by putting it in the dryer because air-drying was taking too long.  I finished most of my packing before Val knocked on my door and asked if we all wanted to go out for burritos.  ‘YES’ was my answer; who passes up the opportunity to get burritos?!  My lovely roommates and I took a stroll through the city to find the burritos I so desperately needed.  The burritos here aren’t as good as Chipotle burritos but they would have to do.

I got a new roommate; her and I instantly became friends.  Even though her English wasn’t that good we had fun trying to understand one another.  Her name is Lina and she is from Austria, not Germany; Austrians get offended if you say they are from Germany.

At about 10:30 Lina and I headed to a bar called Mary Grace.  Every Monday the Bar has a bunch of artists that come and play against each other.  The music was really good and Lina and I had lots of fun looking at all the cute musicians.  Almost everyone from the hostel showed up to listen to the music and drink beer. When we arrived home it was about 12 and we all piled into the TV room and watched the Family Guy version of Star Wars.  At one point someone called me Canada and asked if I should be in bed; I had to get up at 5:20 so it was probably a good idea to sleep.  I was too pumped to sleep and stayed up to watch the whole movie.

It was fun to end my last day in Adelaide like this.
