Flinders Chase National Park

I was finally able to sleep in today!  Even if it was just for an extra half hour, that I spent lying awake wondering when my alarm was going to go off.  I skipped breakfast and did koala spotting with Michaela, it was a very nice morning to spot them.  We rushed back home after so I could make eggs Benny for everyone.  I had to ‘wing’ the hollandaise sauce because I had no measuring cups of any kind; it turned out really nice though.  Nina said that it really felt like Sunday because of the delicious breakfast I made everyone.

Very soon we headed off to Flinders Chase National Park with Kalen as our tour guide.  Before we started our adventure Kalen bestowed upon me a glossy black yellow-tailed cockatoo feather; the bird itself is hard to come by.  I wore the feather in my hair the whole day and earned the name Pocahontas.

We drove to what is called the Remarkable Rocks and took a dozen photos of granite rocks that have been worn away by time.  They have bright orange lichen growing all over them; it almost looks like paint.

Michaela closes her eyes for practically every photo.

After lounging around on the rocks we all headed to the lighthouse for some quick photos and then headed down to the fur seals.  They are such cute and smelly animals; I didn’t notice the smell so much though.  The pups were just learning how to swim and the ‘nannies’ were doing their best to care for them.

The unchanged lighthouse itself.

The cutest little seal pup ever!

What I thought were stalactites hanging from the ceiling of the cave were actually petrified roots; I was so excited to see them.  They were so cool!

These are the roots.

We made it back to the Parks visitor center in time for me to have a veggie burger with some hot chips; the veggie burger was well overdue.  Nina was happy to get her hot chips though; it had apparently been 4 months since she had them.

When we arrived back, Kalen split his cookies n’ cream cheesecake with me while we sat outside and looked at cute photos of his miniature cows.  Dave put us to work in the deserted garden shortly after I finished half the cake.  We emptied dried dirt pots for about 45 minutes… I have now become a pro at it; doing 5 pots at once!

Michaela and I did a VERY long bike ride in attempt to find the rock face that is at Hanson Bay beach.  We didn’t succeed in finding the beach unfortunately… even after 2 hours of biking over rock, sand, roots, and branches.  Our bums hurt so bad afterwards, never in our lives have they hurt so much!  It was a really great ride until we realized half way back the Michaela’s jacket had fallen off; we didn’t go back for that day.  It was her only warm jacket that she brought; I lent her my plaid later that night to keep her warm.  We managed to make it home just before the sun went down and the temperature dropped to something that is too cold to be out in while wearing denim shorts.

The whole house was empty when we arrived home, so we naturally cooked food, sat on the kitchen floor and told our life stories to each other… it was a great bonding moment for us.  We also sat together in a chair too small for the two of us and looked at all the photos on our phones and laptops.

It was a good night for laughs.

Some how we all managed to stay awake till 11!  It was a first for all of us; we did it though.  I was happy to call it a night and cuddle into my nice warm bed.

This tree is estimated to be 400 years old.

A photo of the gang; kalan is on the far left.

The path up the rock face they would pull everything up to get it to the lighthouse.

Just another pretty view.
