At the beginning I thought I was just going to be seeing it
all by myself and not meet anyone interesting. That is not what happened at all. I met practically everyone on the tour! Not that I have trouble remembering
their names but we came up with fruit names for each of us. There is Coconut from Sweden, Raspberry
from England, Passion Fruit, Dragon Fruit, Watermelon, Banana from Germany who
is my favorite and me… Pineapple.
We walked up through town and through the beautiful gardens,
along the waterfront, passed the Sydney Opera house; I really wanted to go
inside but I don’t think we were allowed.
The Azanc Memorial Building.
The ceiling is covered in golden stars for the lives that were lost.
Peaceful gardens.
First glimpse at the Sydney ocean.
Ahh yes! The Opera house.
Me!
Both in one shot!
Along the board walk we passed the aquarium and zoo; I didn’t see the
price for the zoo but the aquarium cost $40 for adult entry, not sure if I’ll
do that while I’m here.
I got to see a submarine, it wasn't yellow though...
Board Walk!
Look! A real koala!
I got to see Johnny Depp today... it was a little weird.
We all had great fun talking to each other and taking
photos, Banana kept feeding me Oreo cookies with a chocolate center.
Entering China Town
When the tour was practically over Coconut, Passion Fruit,
Raspberry and I all went to Coles for some food shopping. Goodness was I happy to have that done
with.
Upon my return to my room I was Skyped by my mother, father
and sister. It was so much fun to
talk to them, and remember how weird they all are.
When all was well and done I had a shower and then headed to
the kitchen to make dinner with Raspberry, Passion Fruit, and Coconut. Oh and did I mention I got a new
roommate… who is from Canada and is my age! We became friends instantly! She had just arrived so I offered to make her dinner that
strengthened our Canadian bond even more.
After all that I headed out to meet someone who might
possibly be able to give me a ride from here to Brisbane. I was super excited to meet him; his
name is Joe, 27 and from Columbia.
We went to a bar and got to talking about the trip and about
ourselves. He offered to buy the
first round of beers, which I had no problem with but it seemed that he just
wanted to keep buying them and buying them for me. I wasn’t really interested in getting drunk with a total
stranger that by this point I wasn’t really getting a good vibe from. So after waiting for 2 hours or so for
a French girl that was suppose to show up, I made an excuse to leave; “my
friends back at the hostel are waiting for me, I really have to go”. He wasn’t too eager to say goodbye so
we went for a quick walk and after I really insisted upon leaving and said
goodbye. I defiantly won’t be
going with him but that’s okay, I have plenty more offers that I will be seeing
while I am here.
When I got back to the hostel finally I grabbed my friends
and headed to the bar downstairs for a fun night, I needed cash however to buy
drinks. So I headed to the ATM and
then to another, and then another.
For some reason Australian ATM’s do not like my cards no matter how much
money I have on them. Finally I
was able to take out $50 dollars but no more when I tried again; stupid
machines!
Just my luck, when I got back to the hostel my phone plan
had just ran out of money and I needed to recharge the account but to no
surprise the cards I have wouldn’t be accepted.
This was not going to be my night, so I decided to stay in
with my two English bunkmates and listen to them play the harmonica and
ukulele. They are very two
entertaining guys and sometimes it is hard to understand their accent but it
makes for all the more fun. Tim
and I watched two episodes of Pokémon before I called it a night and let him
stay up and watch a few more. How nice
it was to go to bed, even if I didn’t get to party with my new friends that
night.
